About Us

Play was founded in 1999 as a collaboration of producer/DJs and promoters who organized music-centric events in the film, music, and fashion industries. The organization's regular events have earned many accolades including a "Best of 2000" award from the Village Voice as well as Citysearch "Pick of the week" notable mentions. Along with their numerous international appearances in cities such as Oslo, Miami, London, San Francisco and Los Angeles, Play DJs Jay Lee, Pete Sung, and Don Vu have regularly performed at some of New York's top club venues, including Crobar, Centro-Fly, Shelter, Avalon, APT, Halcyon and the Sullivan Room to name a few.

The Play DJs have also played at some of New York's most unique parties, such as PS1's Summer Warm-Up. Their 3 hour performance at this outdoor, open-air party with over 4000 people followed New York City's Blackout of 2003, and the result was a truly special set of music.

Don, Jay, and Pete also played on Matter-Form's infamous boat in 2003, a party which circles the Manhattan coastline for 6 hours and has hosted international talent such as Layo & Bushwacka, Ritchie Hawtin, Doc Martin, and Pete Moss.

Play currently organizes a biweekly Wednesday evening event at Sapphire Lounge, in New York's Lower East Side. The event is now in its third year and is widely considered to be one of the the best regular, noncommercial dance music events in the city and has hosted a premier list of international DJs/Producers.
